chess event held in the United Kingdom.
Where is the 4NCL held?
There are several venues - please see the
'Hotels' list in the menus above for '19-20'.
When is the 4NCL held?
It is held over various weekends from Oct to
May. Dates for the
2019-20 season.
Are 4NCL games FIDE rated and ECF graded
Yes, games in the 4NCL are sent for FIDE rating
at the end of the playing season. For the
purposes of rating, the event is treated as an
11-round tournament and players can achieve 9 or
11 round norms. All games are also sent for ECF
grading.
Who Runs the 4NCL?
The 4NCL is a limited company and is run
democratically by a board of directors
comprising well-known chess players and

It is independent of any official national body.

What do I do if I have an issue that I want
to raise with the Management Board?
No weekend is free from problems! You may have
an issue to bring to the attention of the board
or ideas that you think would enhance the status
of the League. If so, you should contact any of
the directors or team representatives listed
above. You can ask your team Captain or
nominated representative to raise the point at
the Captains meeting, which is normally
held at approximately 9.30am on the last day of
the final weekend in May.
What are the rules of the 4NCL?
You can read a copy of the latest league rules
here.
Am I good enough to I play for a team in the
4NCL?
Yes! You need to contact a
Team Captain if
you’d like to play in an existing team. Teams
are organised on an ad hoc basis - it
doesn’t matter what club you belong to or where
you come from. However, you must be properly
registered for a team to represent them.
Can I enter a team in the 4NCL and how much
does it cost?
Yes! We invite entries to the league once a year
- the closing date is normally the end of
September.

participation for the 2017/186 season. Alternatively contact
