The 4NCL is organising its first International Congress from Wednesday, 31st October to Sunday, 4th November at Park Inn Telford, Forgegate – Telford Centre, Telford, TF3 4NA. The 4NCL is seeking arbiters currently holding the FIDE Arbiter title to work at this event, in support of the Chief Arbiter, International Arbiter Alex Holowczak. The Congress will provide arbiters with an opportunity to achieve an International Arbiter norm as outlined below.

The arbiter will be required to:

  • Be able to communicate with players and the rest of the team of arbiters in English.

  • Expect to be on duty between 1400 until play ends and pairings for Round 2 are published (approximately 2330) on Wednesday, 31st October.

  • Expect to be on duty between 0900 until play ends and pairings are published (approximately 1930) on Thursday, 1st November, Friday, 2nd November and Saturday, 3rd November.

  • Expect to be on duty between 0900 until play ends and equipment is packed away (approximately 2000) on Sunday, 4th November.

  • Hold the FIDE Arbiter title.

  • Have a FIDE Arbiters Licence – English arbiters can contact Thomas Thorpe to arrange this.

  • Bring a computer with them in order to use Swiss-Manager or ChessBase as required.

The 4NCL will provide you with:

  • Accommodation (Bed & Breakfast only), paid for by the 4NCL in advance, at the hotel for 4 or 5 nights.

  • Travel expenses reimbursed at 30p/mile if driving, or the cost of a train paid by the Organiser within one week of the end of the Congress. Please note that applicants from outside Great Britain will only be allowed to claim travel expenses from the time they arrive in Great Britain (e.g. when you arrive at a London airport, or from London St. Pancras if travelling by Eurostar).

  • A tournament allowance of £285, paid by the Organiser within one week of the end of the Congress.

  • Upon a satisfactory performance, an International Arbiter norm

Please note that British applicants will be given priority over international applicants.

Applications must be received by 12pm BST on Monday, 2nd July. A sub-committee of the 4NCL Board will then contact all applicants within two weeks to inform them whether or not they have been appointed as an arbiter to this event. Please do not assume you have been selected just by filling in the application form.
